“Being a disciple of Jesus isn’t a one-time decision - it’s an ongoing relationship.”
“Our goal in discipling is to help each other follow Jesus until that day when discipling will be no more… Commit your life to helping others make it home.”
A wonderful and relatively short book packed with wisdom.
Discipleship seems to be a somewhat forgotten thing in church these days. Whilst people are there to support each other (hopefully), the concept of discipleship is not commonly spoken. This book starts with a short history of why the author wrote it and is captured in the prayer they made: “Lord, send me someone to help me follow you.”
This book is not exactly a how-to guide on entering a disciple relationship with another Christian, but it offers some helpful, biblical advice. For a start, it talks about discipleship not being about a 1:1 relationship; you will want to be “discipled” by many believers. Second, it challenges you to think about how you are helping others in their journey with God.
Ultimately remember, you are a disciple of Christ. But who will you deliberately look to for help within God’s church?
This book would be great for a fairly new Christian, or one who feels they need help growing in their faith. If the idea that you need guidance in your faith has occured to you, read this book.
